Biotech company Leyden Labs raises €40 million
Leyden Labs raises €40 million from the European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund, Invest-NL, the Gates Foundation, and ClavystBio.
Leyden Labs was founded in 2020 by Koenraad Wiedhaup, among others, and is based in Leiden, the Netherlands.
Leyden Labs is developing innovative biotechnology to better protect people against respiratory viruses. The company is focusing on a new type of prevention using nasal sprays containing antibodies. These sprays act directly at the site where viruses enter the body, namely the nose and airways. This could potentially prevent infections at an early stage. The technology is aimed at broad protection against virus families such as influenza and coronaviruses. This makes the approach less susceptible to mutations in viruses than traditional vaccines.
With the funding raised, the company aims to accelerate its clinical trials. Additionally, investments will be made in the further development of the product pipeline. The funds will also be used to expand the organization and research activities. The ultimate goal is to be better prepared globally for future pandemics and seasonal outbreaks.
