Hours that do not count for the WBSO

It is natural to think that if you submit a project for the WBSO, all hours for that project count. However, that is not the case. Hours that can be claimed for the WBSO are hours directly and exclusively aimed at resolving the bottlenecks identified in the application.

Below is a list of hours that must under no circumstances be counted.

These hours may not be claimed.

No R&D hours are hours for:

  • trade fair and conference attendance
  • training programs, courses and symposia
  • maintaining the R&D records and other administrative and organizational tasks
  • supervising interns or graduating students
  • architectural and installation engineering designs
  • preparing the product for production
  • R&D projects that have not been applied for and/or approved
  • activities that do not relate directly and exclusively to the R&D project
  • activities carried out outside the Member States of the European Union (including the United Kingdom!).

Hours that are not R&D hours are hours of:

  • employees who are not salaried employees (for example, graduates or interns)
  • employees who are not technically involved in the project (secretaries or a marketing manager).
